The body was discovered at Leith Walk Primary School on Brunswick Road in the Leith area of the Scottish capital. Police descended on the school after the alarm was raised last night and taped off the entrance.

Police confirmed that the body of a man aged 62 had been found in the school grounds.

The school stayed shut today and will remain shut tomorrow.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said that they received a “report of concern” for a person at the Brunswick Road premises around 10.30pm on Monday evening.

They added: “Officers attended and the body of a 62-year-old man was found within.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and, as with all sudden deaths, a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Procurator Fiscal investigates all sudden and suspicious deaths in Scotland – similar to a coroner in England.

A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: “On the advice of Police Scotland we closed Leith Walk Primary School today and have updated parents.”
